Hellion Pictures is seeking cast and crew for West, by Steven Berkoff. "Set in 1960s London, West depicts the hard, gritty working class milieu of its Stamford Hill District. Protagonist Mike is a member of a local gang and is called to avenge one of his mates' death and fight their opposing gang's formidable Hoxton Monster." Priscilla Boksan, prod.; Bruce Cooper, dir. Rehearsals start Dec. 1. Performances run Jan. 15-Feb. 6, 2010 at the Electric Lodge Theatre in Venice.
Seeking—Sid: 50s, Caucasian, Mike's father, stocky, ugly-handsome, stooped-shoulders, face that looks like it's been battered in a car wreck, lives the life of quiet desperation as a Bow Street tailor, longtime married to Pearl, with two grown kids, his complicated relationship with Mike comes to a boiling point when he fights the Hoxton Monster, vulgar, but likeable, Bob Hoskins type, Cockney accent required; Pearl: 50s, Caucasian, Mike's mother, kind eyes, soft features, yet workman's hands with short cut nails, housewife, mother to two grown kids, modest woman, purposeful and social, but stifled by domineering husband, Sid, has anxious manner and soul-busy even when sitting, oscillates back and forth between acceptance and desire to escape from her life, but is strong maternal presence for her children, has the inner strength and soft exterior of Dame Maggie Smith, Cockney accent required; Crew/Stage Manager: needed to run the rehearsal schedule, work with the nine actor cast, and be responsible for all the associated details, such as call outs, going over lines with actors, and all the other miscellaneous ins and outs required of a stage manager, energetic, fast on his/her feet, and can support and kick the cast into gear when need be. Note: Actors and stage manager must be available for the following dates: Dec. 1-4, 7-11, 14-18, 28-31, Jan. 4-8, & 11, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.; Jan. 12 & 13, 10 a.m.-10 p.m.; Jan. 15-Feb. 6, (Fri. & Sat.) 8 p.m. performances.
